Louisiana Virtual Charter Academy (LAVCA) is a full-time online public school for students in grades K–12. We’re dedicated to inspiring and empowering students through an education experience tailored to each child’s needs.

Our Story

Louisiana Virtual Charter Academy (LAVCA) is available to Louisiana students in grades K–12 through an agreement between Stride, Inc. and Community School for Apprenticeship Learning Inc. (CSAL). Founded in 1997, CSAL is a not-for-profit with a mission to provide students with real-world experiences by giving them access to alternative forms of instruction. Since its inception, CSAL has operated a small middle school and high school centered on individualized attention, integrated project-based instruction, and motivating students to do their best. LAVCA is its third charter school. At LAVCA, your child can learn in the ways that are right for them—at home, on the road, or wherever there’s an internet connection. We offer Louisiana-certified teachers; a rigorous, highly interactive curriculum; K12’s career and college prep for grades 6–12; and enrichment programs and small group remediation.

The Support You and Your Student Need

Our teachers are committed to helping your family succeed with online learning. They provide instruction and support as your child works through the curriculum. And they keep the lines of communication open through email, phone, online “Class Connect” sessions, and online and in-person activities. You’ll also receive textbooks and other hands-on materials delivered right to your door! These offline materials complement the interactive online elements of the lessons and vary by grade and course.

Career and College Prep

You can use your middle and high school years to figure out where you want to go and how to get there. In addition to core courses, you’ll take career-focused electives to explore your options and find your passion—all while earning your high school diploma. Discovering what you want to do now can prepare you to dive into a career right out of high school or help you make the right decision about your college major. Career fields include Arts, AV Technology & Communication; Business Management; Health Sciences; Information Technology; and Manufacturing & Trades.

School Opening and Location

MU Prep held its inaugural first day of school on August 3, 2022, for Indiana residents only. For the 2023–2024 school year, MU Prep has expanded to offer our innovative, virtual full-time enrollment to students in grades K–10 in more than 30 states. We will also offer grades 11 and 12 in the coming years. MU Prep-Indiana offers a fully virtual program to students across the state and a hybrid learning option, including in-person learning at Marian University in the heart of Indianapolis, Indiana. Conveniently located, the beautiful campus is an inspiring place to learn and reflect. MU Prep hopes to expand hybrid learning models to other locations in the future.

Academic Rigor

Southern University Laboratory Virtual School is a selective enrollment public school with required enrollment criteria. Acceptance into the program is not guaranteed.

Juniors and Seniors have the opportunity to participate in The Early Start Program at Southern University’s Baton Rouge Campus.

Graduating students are issued a diploma from Southern University Laboratory School, an enduring standard of excellence in Louisiana public school education since 1922. Students receive their diplomas in-person, alongside the graduating class of our partner college, Southern University, in Baton Rouge.

Students that enroll in Southern University Laboratory Virtual School must complete the Louisiana TOPS University Curriculum that prepares students for entrance to a four-year Louisiana state university or for a career path.
